EmperorLinux offers several Linux tablets, including the office-oriented Raven X230 Tablet (based on the ThinkPad X230 Tablet by Lenovo), the semi-rugged Scorpion CF-C1 (based on the Panasonic Toughbook CF-C1), and the fully-rugged Wasp CF-19 (based on the Panasonic Toughbook CF-19). This page describes the features that make tablet computing unique.

  • Dynamic X rotation - When you hit the rotate button or flip the LCD panel on the Raven X230, the screen rotates from landscape to portrait and back. The screen can also be rotated, cycling between four orientations, via the rotate button. The Wasp CF-19 also has a screen rotate button for dynamic orientation changes. (and there is no need to logout or restart X.)
  • Biometric fingerprint scanner - The fingerprint scanner is tied into the tablets' security services using PAM. It is currently linked to gdm, login, su. (Linking to other functions is possible.) All you have to do is train your fingerprints, then you can use them to log in. (Or you can fall back to typing your password.)
  • Pen/stylus input to screen - Use it as a mouse pointer and as a pen/stylus. The Raven X230 tablet also adds an eraser to the stylus. The availability of pen input on the table enables the following features:
    • Handwriting recognition - Includes a software suite to convert handwritten text to ASCII text. (Handwriting features do require some training, but are very nearly as good as the "Windows Journal" at this time.)
    • Pressure sensitive pen and (on some models) eraser in applications like The GIMP.
    • Also, use the onscreen keyboard to enter text with the pen/stylus.
  • BlueKeys - Special BlueKeys support when the Raven is folded into tablet configuration include: scroll wheel, enter, escape, rotate, and toolbox keys. (Available keys may vary by model.) The toolbox key (toolbox plugin to "EmpTool" provides access to LCD brightness up/down, volume up/down, backlight, WiFi kill, etc.)

In addition to the special tablet features on the Raven and Wasp, the usual EmperorLinux functions and features provide full Linux support for:

  • Hibernate to disk
  • Wireless a/b/g/n (internal WiFi, with dual antennas)
  • BlueKeys function keys support (LCD brightness, volume, external VGA)
  • CPU throttling (based on usage environment)
  • USB, CardBus (PCMCIA), sound, gigabit ethernet, and more
